A premium refillable skincare system

Daisyface is a skincare brand that harnesses the transformative power of a daisy in its ingredients to create simple, and efficient, skincare routines that promote luminous and healthy skin. Daisyface approached BLOND to design a high-end refillable skincare range of six products in total; a cleanser, toner, face cream, exfoliator, SPF, and eye cream; with the ingredients focused on using innovative, plant-powered ingredients. Understanding the characteristics of the brand allowed the design approach to focus on making the products feel premium, but also sustainable; ensuring the refills were easy to replace and used as little material as possible.

A cornerstone to the refillable packaging is its form, abstracted from the profile of a daisy’s flower head. This footprint is then extruded to create its distinctive profile; dressed in anodised aluminium to enhance the simple yet striking shape. The two different volumes are then defined by simply adjusting the height of the vessels, creating an intriguing tiered effect. This profile not only provides an ergonomic hold, but lends itself to nesting—an ideal feature for a range of six skincare products. This form also allowed the product range to use the same tooling; limiting the amount of tools and processes used. Similarly, the containers all use the same dispenser head (and therefore the same mould) and are differentiated through colour for each product. The modular nature of the skincare collection therefore opens its doors to reusing the same tools for future products, without sacrificing the sustainability of the brand.

To avoid interrupting the product’s distinctive profile, the airless pump head is hidden within the vessel—with different colours to make each product within the skincare range easily identifiable—and can be raised with a single quarter turn. The refills can be accessed by simply pulling the two halves of the magnetised container apart.

Following market research, there was a key observation; a saturation of refills that choose to house the dispenser head with the refill, as opposed to the reusable container itself, making their multi-material composition almost impossible to recycle. Our design therefore integrates an airless pump into the main container, creating a more simplified refill construction. This offers a truly standout item in the refillable cosmetics market—a refillable container that utilises an integrated airless pump.

When nested, the products aim to feel ‘shelf-worthy’; a collection the user feels proud of having on display at home. The choice of non-polarising, gender-neutral colours not only provides broad appeal, but also longevity in style.
